Young Jazz Society is a big band from Utrecht made up of ambitious young musicians who distinguish themselves through their original, refreshing take on jazz. Innovative and accessible at the same time, they focus on music that is either composed or arranged especially for them. The project Breaking Boundaries with Tijn Wybenga and Reinier Baas promises a sizzling combination of acoustic jazz with live electronics, sampling and effects.

Tijn Wybenga, former artist-in-residence with our venue, developed his own vision on fusing classical music, hip-hop and jazz. He will rewrite pieces from his album Brainteaser to a big band line-up (Aplauso, Triudium, Neapy), and he will write new pieces that will premiere with Young Jazz Society. Tijn  Wybenga is the artistic director of the Amsterdam-based AM.OK Orchestra. Reinier Baas is one of his main inspirers.

Boundless guitarist Reiner Baas will continue his project #oneminuteradio, for which he writes pieces within a limited amount of time, all with a length of exactly one minute. For this project a special composition is written based on these 40 (!) #oneminuteradio songs. In his compositions he expresses his love for hip-hop beats, lo-fi samples, twentieth century harmonies, and African drums. Alongside his own group The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble he has worked with various big bands and orchestras, such as the Metropole Orchestra.
