Catalan pianist Xavi Torres has mastered jazz as well as classical music and flamenco. During the first pandemic lockdown, he wrote one piece every day for one month, as a challenge to keep the creative energy going. This has resulted in the album Quarentena Songs, on Dox Records. The thirty compositions reflect the mixed feelings of that period, from sadness to hope and from nostalgia to gratitude.
Xavi Torres recorded the album with two different all-star rhythm sections. One with Cuban double bassist Reinier ‘El Negrón’ Elizarde, who collaborated with Chucho Valdés, and Catalan drummer Andreu Pitarch, whom played with Miguel Zenón, among others. The second line-up on the album features the most in-demand rhythm section in The Netherlands, with Clemens van der Feen on double bass and Jamie Peet on drums. With them, Xavi will be performing on our stage. These three jazz virtuosos have been playing together for six years now, and their shows are known for their power, nuance and attention to detail.
