WORKSHOP & SESSION

WORKSHOP
All instruments all welcome, voice included. Participating musicians need to be ready to play at 8 PM sharp. It is not necessary to apply for participation.
The workshop improvisation is led by Arnold Dooyeweerd, musician, bass player and music teacher.
Beginners, advanced and performing players collaborate to learn from each other.
In this workshop the emphasis lies on creating a situation in which you can’t fall back on written music while playing together. Even when you are not mastering your instrument yet, your personal development will be attended to while using your skills during improvising.
Usually the workshop starts with an exercise concerning things that went wrong in previous performances.
Occasionally the exercise will be done by volunteers to illustrate this principle, at other times the exercise will be an individual matter. After a short break there will be played in small groups, usually with an assignment, sometimes after a short rehearsal. By that time an audience has arrived and the participants will be able to gain stage experience.

SESSION
Every Tuesday night at 22PM in the cafe.
Free admission for musicians and visitors.
Led by Jasper Blom.
In collaboration with the Music Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Tonight the session will be opened by Radio Luna, a band that makes music on the cutting edge of jazz, latin and flamenco. The group was founded by singer Luna Zegers and pianist Maartje Meijer and further consists of flamenco guitarist Jordi Rodriguez (Barcelona), electric bassist Tomas Merlo (Mallorca) and percussion player Miguel Garcia (Granada).

Radio Luna combines jazz tradition with andalucian flamenco and mixes this with latin grooves to form a new sound, with songs both in spanish and in english. In the piano you hear the vigour of the guitar while the guitar flirts with exciting jazz harmonies. Add a percussion player who produces a blend of Spanish and Cuban sounds, a fast-fingered virtuoso on the bass and Luna’s flexible voice that navigates effortlessly between jazz and flamenco and there you have it: Radio Luna!
