Connected by a close and deep long-term friendship, these three musicians have mastered the art of transferring their personal bond to musical realms in fascinating ways. For example on their album Angular Blues on ECM Records: its dynamic interactions range from soft and poetic to edgy and tricky, where every note is embedded in warm sound, opening up space as if by magic. Here Wolfgang Muthspiel comes to the fore as a guitarist and composer. Equally impressive are double bassist Scott Colley and drummer Brian Blade, leading players in American jazz.

Wolfgang Muthspiel has lived in New York for many years, since the 1990s. There he rapidly developed himself as a jazz guitarist in the upper regions of the jazz world. Today he lives in his native Austria, in Vienna, but he still regularly works with major American artists, such as Brad Mehldau and Ambrose Akinmusire. His partners in this trio have also played with a multitude of jazz greats. Scott Colley has played in Herbie Hancock’s bands for many years, while Brian Blade has been a member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet for over twenty years.
