WILLIE JONES III QUINTET
Justin Robinson altsax, Eddie Henderson trompet, Danny Grissett piano, Daryl Hall bas, Willie Jones III drums
As one of the world’s leading jazz drummers, Willie Jones III plays with among others Roy Hargrove and Kurt Elling, with both of whom he has performed at the Bimhuis. Time and again he finds original approaches for his band, with which he plays pure, unadulterated bop jazz. Downbeat highlighted his most recent CD, an ode to the extensive oeuvre of drummer/composer Max Roach. At the Bimhuis, Willie Jones III will perform with his New York Quintet.
Willie Jones III can be heard on a host of recordings including Horace Silver’s Jazz Has a Sense of Humor, Eric Reed’s Here and Kurt Elling’s Grammy-nominated Night Moves. About his own album, The Willie Jones III Sextet Plays the Max Roach Songbook from 2013, New York Times commented: ‘The strongest thing about this strong album is the intense, ordered, disciplined energy of Mr. Jones.’
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
