He was also the co-founder of BV Haast, a record label for all types of music that Breuker took seriously, but were completely ignored by commrecial record companies. For dozens of years he organized the festival Klap op de Vuurpijl, for jazz, improvised music and contemporary composed music.

The new, biannual award is intented for a person whose work displays similar characteristics to the works of Willem Breuker. Composer Reza Namavar will receive the first Willem Breuker Prijs in the BIMHUIS.
The new, biennial Willem Breuker Prijs is an award intented for a person whose work displays similar characteristics as the works of Willem Breuker. Composer Reza Namavar will receive the first Willem Breuker Prijs at the BIMHUIS on 4 November.

On this evening, violinist Vera Beths, pianist Gerard Bouwhuis, bariton Florian Just and Sandee/van Nieukerken Pianoduo will perform works by Reza Namavar. The laureate will receive € 15.000 and a sculpture by Wim T. Schippers. Olga Zuiderhoek and Sieuwert Verster will present the award on behalf of the Willem Breuker Stichting.

From the jury report: ‘Reza Namavar (Amstelveen, 1980) is an idiosyncratic composer, a true representative of the distinctive Dutch contemporary music scene. In this idiosyncrasy, he is clearly related to the man bearing the name of the award: Willem Breuker. His idiom distinguishes itself by the space it devotes to the absurd aspects of our life and the world.’
