WALLACE RONEY QUINTET
Wallace Roney-trumpet, Antoine Roney-saxophone, Robert Irving III-piano, Charnett Moffett-bass, Lenny White-drums, Val Jeantry-DJ, electronica
It is undeniable that Wallace Roney is inspired by Miles Davis (Roney is the only trumpet player that had Davis as a mentor), but you can also trace the exuberance of Clifford Brown in his playing, that shows an impressive mastering of the instrument but also abroad stylistic interest. For instance, he used one of the most creative new DJ’s, Val Jeanty, for the last edition of his group. ‘Also his most recent album Mystikal connects with Miles Davis, but now it touches his 70’s music, the electric era.’ (NRC Handelsblad).
