VPROJAZZLIVE THURSDAY
Heavy grooves, samples and soundscapes are important ingredients for the new group of violin player Jasper de Clercq, known as a member of Zapp String Quartet. Albert van Veenendaal transforms the grand piano with technical preparations, making it sound like a one-person percussion ensemble. His mixture of percussive rhythms, open-ended sounds and catchy melodies approaches minimal music. The twelve-piece ensemble Gato Loco, founded by New York saxophonist Stefan Zeniuk, combines early mambo and salsa with adventurous jazz. Additionally, the band plays new interpretations of traditional Cuban music.
