VON FREEMAN & ANDREW HILL TRIO
Von Freeman-tenor saxophone, Andrew Hill-piano, John Hebert-double bass, Nasheet Waits-drums
Two of the most unique and brilliant spirits in jazz, both from Chicago, together on stage: a combination you can only dream of. Te 82 year old Von Freeman, the incarnation of ‘sound of surprise’, matches a fickle fantasy to a solid style. You get lost in his solos full of captivating side tracks and fascinating detours, always coming home in the end. Pianist/composer Andrew Hill is a genre all by himself, every piece he plays is a mosaic with melodic surfaces, rhythmic moves and layers of chords with a highly personal timbre. His steady rhythm section, with the wonderful Nasheet Waits as a power station, is right in there.
