VIVA BRASIL FESTIVAL 2014

While Brazil prepares for the World Cup, Amsterdam is getting
ready for Viva Brasil Festival 2014. This international festival of
Brazilian jazz, samba and popular Brazilian music (MPB) brings a
dazzling programme to a stunning location on the IJ on 18, 19 and 20
July.

The Muziekgebouw and Bimhuis stages will be hosting top-class Brazilian musicians and exciting new talents who are guaranteed to get everybody dancing. The foyer of the Muziekgebouw will become Praça Viva Brasil, a lively square with something for everyone – electrifying VJ-shows, fascinating workshops, and especially: dancing! Of course, there’ll be lots of delicious food too: like any Brazilian square, the Praça will have a tempting selection of Brazilian snacks and drinks for you to enjoy. The outside terrace will be transformed into a Samba Lounge.

Viva Brasil Festival 2014 will open with a concert by the songwriter Tulipa Ruiz, whose supple voice has forged a variety of different Brazilian styles into a unique and personal sound. Giovanca will present her DJ set, followed by exhilarating brazilectro from ZUCO 103.

TULIPA RUIZ

Tulipa Ruiz has a unique and personal sound. With her supple voice she sings in a variety of Brazilian styles – from indie pop to samba and choro. The Paulista-born songwriter has made her debut in 2010 with Efêmera, followed by the equally well-received Tudo Tanto (2012). She has named Joni Mitchell as an inspiration, but the influence of the Brazilian icon Gal Costa can also be heard in Ruiz’ fresh melodies and relaxed performance.
