Virginia Rodrigues, the diva from Salvador de Bahia, is the new voice of Brazilian music according to New York Times. Her powerful, penetrating voice reflects the samba from her youth in the slums, but also the classical and spiritual music she picked up in church. Rodrigues was discovered by Caetano Veloso. On her CDs she collaborated with Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento, amongst others. ‘[An] achingly pure voice’ (The Observer).
