Double bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake have had an inestimable influence on improvised music. Often regarded as the greatest living rhythm section in jazz, these musicians from New York City and Chicago have played together in countless bands since the 90s and are key figures in international avant-jazz.

In 2014 John Dikeman invited them to join him for a trio at our venue as part of the Doek Festival. Since then they have released a number of albums and toured throughout Europe. As part of a tour in 2019, Luis Vicente joined the group for a number of dates in Portugal creating this quartet and the album Goes Without Saying, but It’s Got to Be Said on the Portuguese JACC Records.

Luis Vicente explores all sides of the trumpet in a wide variety of settings. He is one of the most active musicians in Europe, instouring tirelessly with countless groups. Coming from a small religious American village, John Dikeman has traveled all over the world, driven by free jazz. He currently plays a leading role in Amsterdam’s improvised music scene, and he regularly brings musicians to the city who inspire him.
