Uri Caine & Theo Bleckmann
Theo Bleckmann voice/loops, Uri Caine piano
Both Uri Caine and Theo Bleckmann have a long history of traversing between classical music, contemporary music, and jazz. As a duo they take on repertoire that is usually reserved for the classical vocal recital. Whether it’s a song cycle by Schumann, Schubert or Wagner, or songs by Gershwin, Kurt Weill, Hanns Eisler, Scarlatti, and Mahler: their love for these compositions make this a concert of unparalleled innovation, joy, and playful improvisations.
Pianist Uri Caine is a major player in the New York jazz avant-garde. Much like his kindred spirit John Zorn, he knows how to unite fundamentally different styles. He already interpreted works by Bach and Beethoven, and he has collaborated with respected orchestras and ensembles. German-born singer Theo Bleckmann made name collaborating with contemporary composer such as Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk and Philip Glass. His repertory also includes jazz, cabaret, and baroque.
