UNIVERSAL INDIANS & JOE MCPHEE

Joe McPhee tenorsax/trompet, John Dikeman tenorsax, Jon Rune Strøm bas, Tollef Østvang drums

From soulful eruptions on tenor saxophone to electronic music and abstract improvisations on pocket cornet: saxophonist/trumpet player Joe McPhee has covered the whole range of international improvised music. Originating from the American free jazz of the 1960s he has set the example for Universal Indians, which is named after a composition by Albert Ayler. The trio consists of Norwegian musicians Jon Rune Strøm (double bass) and Tollef Østvang (drums) plus tenor saxophonist John Dikeman. Coming from small religious village and driven by free jazz to travel the world, Dikeman currently plays a leading role in the Amsterdam improvised music scene.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020 7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
