Under the Surface – Miin Triuwa

Joost Lijbaart drums/percussion, Sanne Rambags vocals/harmonium, Bram Stadhouders guitar/effects, Annabel Laura guitar/vocals/percussion/lyre/keyboard, Lennart Heyndels double bass/electric bass/vocals

In the five years since its foundation, Under the Surface has toured all over the world. Through extensive traveling, the group has developed a unique improvisational language inspired by many cultures. After the first two fully improvised recordings, Under the Surface and Trinity, the group now presents a composed album, Miin Triuwa. For this, guitarist Bram Stadhouders has written a six part suite based on the characters of the band members.

Miin Triuwa (‘my honour’) establishes a connection with the forgotten medieval language of The Netherlands. Vocalist Sanne Rambags researched this with the help of historical linguist Peter-Alexander Kerkhof and the Dutch Language Institute. She wrote the lyrics for the album in Old Dutch as it was spoken 10000 to 1500 years ago. Its sound is akin to Gaelic and Icelandic.
