With UK Now! the Bimhuis presents remarkable talent from contemporary British jazz. Featuring two energetic London bands, with musicians known from bands such as Phronesis and Kairos.

In this first edition of UK Now! the Bimhuis presents two remarkable bands from contemporary British jazz and improvised music. Especially on the rise is the close-knit scene in London. We recognize various musicians in UK Now! from other British bands that have performed at the Bimhuis recently.

Ivo Neame is a distinctive name in UK Jazz, because he’s active as both pianist and saxophonist. In his own Quintet he plays piano. Ivo has appeared on the Bimhuis stage before in the renowned formations Kairos 4tet and Phronesis, and his own bands have an equally energetic approach. Yatra, the title of his new album, stands for ‘journey’ and that is exactly what Ivo wants to evoke with his music. ‘Yatra burns with extremely organised energy, and seethes with cerebral passion. It marks Neame’s ascent to a stratospheric level as composer, arranger and bandleader’ (BBC).

Dice Factory is a true all star group, with members of three leading bands from the young British jazz scene: Kairos 4tet, Ma and Empirical. Drummer Jon Scott is in high demand because he can handle the ‘broken beats’, uneven time signatures and unexpected turns that characterize current UK Jazz. ‘The players can swiftly move from gentle melancholy to wider, freer passages but they never allow chaos to reign’ (All About Jazz).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
