UITREIKING BUMA BOY EDGAR PRIJS 2014 TO JEROEN VAN VLIET
Afterwards DJ at the cafe: Peer Vos
The most important Dutch jazz award will be presented to Jeroen van Vliet, ‘one of the most lyrical pianists of the Netherlands’ (de Volkskrant).
The Buma Boy Edgar Prize, the most important prize for jazz and improvised music in The Netherlands, will be presented to pianist/composer Jeroen van Vliet. The winner will curate a concert at the Bimhuis where he will receive the award, which consists of € 12.500 and a sculpture by Jan Wolkers. The concert will be broadcast on Radio 6 in VPRO’s Vrije Geluiden.
Jeroen van Vliet is regarded as ‘one of the most lyrical piano players in The Netherlands’ (de Volkskrant), ‘master of nuance’ (Trouw) and a composer who combines a strong sense of melody and harmony with adventure and experiment. He made name in the bands of saxophonist Paul van Kemenade and bassist Eric van der Westen, and he made a vital contribution to Eric Vloeimans’ Gatecrash, playing Fender Rhodes. Following his North Sea Jazz Composition assignment in 2008 he presented several solo projects and became a member of Estafest (featuring violin player Oene van Geel, guitarist Anton Goudsmit and saxophonist Mete Erker) and OGU (featuring guitarist Bram Stadhouders and drummer Etienne Nillesen).
The jury of the Buma Boy Edgar Prize praises Van Vliet as a musician with a personal voice, and with a boundless drive for adventure. ‘Van Vliet makes music to you lose yourself into. He is one of the great poets of Dutch improvised music, a warm person who will never be tempted to produce unnecessarily difficult forms of music and aims to create beauty in sound. It is the sound that creates content, dimension and depth.’
The Bimhuis Café and box office open at 7 PM. The restaurant will be closed.
