TYSHAWN SOREY QUARTET

During his previous gig at the Bimhuis, with the Steve Lehman Octet, Tyshawn Sorey proved himself as a fabulous drummer, combining ferocity and beauty in his playing. In his own compositions Sorey de-emphasizes solos in favour of ensemble playing and collective improvisation. Cornet player Taylor Ho Bynum and pianist John Escreet have appeared on the Bimhuis stage with their own projects. Reeds player Aaron Stewart has played with Julius Hemphill and Craig Taborn. ‘Sorey is a master of metric modulations, shifting dynamics and lightning fast glances – he’s wonderfully responsive and reactive’ (Downbeat).
