With her project It Began in Africa singer Tutu Puoane offers space to fantastic soloists from her native South Africa: trumpet player Marcus Wyatt and percussionist Tony Paco. Tutu Puoane was born in a township near Pretoria and grew up in a musical family, in a time when jazz was considered as a form of rebellion against apartheid. Since 2005 she settled in Belgium, where she achieved success with solo albums full of jazz, soul and gospel and performing with such artists as Toots Thielemans and Brussels Jazz Orchestra. ‘Simply stunning’ (Cape Times).
