THREE MASTERS PLAYING THE OUD: LE TRIO JOUBRAN

The Trio Joubran are Palestinian brothers Samir, Wissam and Adnan Joubran, all three masters on the oud, the Arab lute. They come from a family with a long musical tradition and form the only oud-trio in the world. All three brothers are virtuoso soloists that not only excel in their masterful improvisations, but also tread new ground in Arab music through their intricate interplay. The basis of their music is Arab, but there are many other influences, ranging from jazz and flamenco to the western classical tradition. At the Holland Festival the brothers will perform in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ as well, in a programme with the Nieuw Ensemble. In the Bimhuis they perform work from their CD Majâz with percussionist Yousef Hbeish.
