TOUMANI & SIDIKI DIABATÉ

MALI
1 SET WITHOUT INTERMISSION
Toumani Diabaté, Sidiki Diabaté kora

‘Of all kora players Toumani Diabaté is the absolute master’ (Parool). The Grammy winner from Mali will perform live with his son Sidiki, his successor on the West-African harp.

Toumani Diabaté, one of Africa’s most important contemporary musicians, sees it as his duty to communicate between different people and cultures. His medium is the kora, the 21-string harp consisting of a calabash soundboard and a long neck. The musician from Mali won two Grammy’s and collaborated with, among many others, Ali Farka Touré, Damon Albarn and Björk. Now he will perform live with his son Sidiki, his successor in a lineage of kora players that spans 72 generations and 700 years.

‘Of all kora players Toumani Diabaté is the absolute master, the Vladimir Horowitz of the calabash harp. Diabaté’s playing is so elegant, elastic, surprising and above all poetic, that it’s hard to put into words’ (Parool).
