Toumani Diabaté, one of Africa’s most important contemporary musicians, sees it as his duty to communicate between different people and cultures. His medium is the kora, the 21-string harp consisting of a calabash soundboard and a long neck. Beauty and adventure converge in his unique style of playing, which has reached audiences the world over. The musician from Mali, a descendent of 71 generations of kora players, has collaborated with innumerable top performing artists that include Ali Farka Touré and Björk. ‘A genius of African music’ (The Guardian).
