TONY MALABY TUBACELLO QUARTET

Tony Malaby sax, Chris Hoffman cello, Dan Peck tuba, John Hollenbeck drums

Pure sound, emotion and intuition: this is what the music Tony Malaby is all about. The tenor sax player, ‘a hero of today’s improvised music scene’ (JazzTimes), made a name for himself in the bands of Paul Motian, Charlie Haden and Fred Hersch. With his new adventurous group Tubacello Quartet he once again surprises the international improv scene.

Malaby had already formed a trio with cello player Chris Hoffmann and a trio with tuba player Dan Peck. Tubacello Quartet is the next step. Drummer in this remarkable lineup is John Hollenbeck, who shifts easily between drums, mallet instruments and even kitchen appliances. ‘Hollenbeck never repeats himself’ (Downbeat).

‘Malaby makes full use of his harmonic depth, abiding sense of swing, and beautifully sculpted tone’ (Chicago Reader).

Prior to the concert is a wine tasting afternoon. Combi tickets can be bought for € 24 . Click here for more info about the wine tasting afternoon. After the concert the Bimhuis restaurant will open and for this occasion a special arrangement of wines will be served.
