Sun Ra’s music passionately performed by Supersonic, the new band of energetic French alto sax player Thomas De Pourquery, who presents fresh arrangements.
For years the alto saxophonist and former rugby player Thomas De Pourquery from Paris has been translating Sun Ra’s music to the present. He almost quit after his computer with arrangements was stolen. However, in a flash of cosmic inspiration he wrote the repertory for Supersonic, a new group with musicians from the contemporary classical sphere, rock, electro and jazz, who share his love for trance, melody and improvisation. Together they tell their unique story through the music of the masterful band leader from Chicago, who claimed to have come from Saturn.
Supported by Institut Français and the French embassy in the Netherlands.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
