Theo Loevendie
celebrates his 85th birthday with his jazz band The Wellingtonians plus special
guests Oene van Geel, Yuri Honing, Nora Fischer and Erik Bosgraaf.

Reedist and composer Theo Loevendie, one of the
founders of jazz in The Netherlands,
made name as a composer of orchestra music, operas and ensemble pieces. Since a
couple of years he performs with a jazz band again at Café Welling in Amsterdam-Zuid,
a favorite bar for many prominent figures from the 1970s Amsterdam art scene.
His main quartet The Wellingtonians invites a guest soloist for each
performance. Some of them will perform at this birthday concert: Oene van Geel,
Yuri Honing, Nora Fischer and Erik Bosgraaf.

This afternoon at the Bimhuis everyone can
witness the unique ‘Wellingsound’ in a concert environment. As a member of The
Wellingtonians, composer and improviser Theo Loevendie is surrounded with top
musicians from the Dutch jazz scene.

Additionally, a selection of Theo Loevendie’s
composed music will be performed by students of the Conservatory of Amsterdam
plus members of The Wellingtonians.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open after the concert from 6.00 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
