THE REST IS NOISE FESTIVAL:
Festival with cutting edge pop and electronics. Featuring concerts by Emptyset at the Bimhuis and These New Puritans Expanded, Fennesz, Holly Herndon en Kassem Mosse at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.
The Rest is Noise opens the new season with a festival at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and the Bimhuis, an evening full of cutting edge pop and electronics. Since 2012 Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ regularly presents the series The Rest is Noise, which focuses on original and innovative music. It started in the small hall of the venue and has now grown into a festival evening with diverse, but like-minded young sound artists, producers and bands. Featuring concerts by These New Puritans Expanded, Fennesz, Holly Herndon and Kassem Mosse, at Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, and British duo Emptyset at the Bimhuis.
Time seems to stand still in the adventurous minimal techno of Emptyset, the British duo of producers James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas. By experimenting with structure and time they rise above the electronic dance music from which they originated.
London band These New Puritans mashes up electronic pop, hip-hop beats and classical instruments. Their most recent album Field of Reeds has garnered international acclaim. Dutch composer Michiel van der Aa has collaborated with them, writing some of the arrangements and compositions. They will appear live with the ensemble Stargaze, conducted by André de Ridder.
Austrian producer Fennesz became known as a sound alchemist, turning buzzing guitars and fuzzy electronic music into beautiful sounds. The combination of abstract noise and summery pop influences is at the heart of his live shows.
The warm, sensual soundscapes of American composer Holly Herndon are often based on her own voice, which she samples, cuts, pastes and processes with electronics. Her single Chorus was voted Best New Track by leading webzine Pitchfork.
During the last 10 years, Kassem Mosse has produced some of the most exciting house music around, with raw, slow beats and solid grooves. The Leipzig based producer has only recently released his first full album.
