THE PIANISTS Carte Blanche for Tomoko Mukaiyama TOMOKO MUKAIYAMA/JOANNA MACGREGOR/FREDERIC RZEWSKI/Misha Mengelberg/GUUS JANSSEN/LOUIS ANDRIESSEN

An exceptional meeting of two brillant performers of classical and contemporary music, who are not afraid of improvisation (Tomoko Mukaiyama, Joanna MacGregor) and four world-class composers/improvisors (Frederic Rzewski, Louis Andriessen, Guus Janssen, Misha Mengelberg). On Tomoko’s initiative they perform together for two days (solo, duo, quatre-mains) using the two Bimhuis Steinways, a harpsichord, harmonium and toy pianos. The program contains, besides many improrovisations (arranged or not), initiatives of all participants and works by Schubert, Piazolla and Reich, to name a few.
