The Lotusclub with Mike Boddé & Beatrice van der Poel
Beatrice van der Poel vocals, Mike Boddé piano, Niels Tausk trumpet/double bass, Tom Beek saxophones
Singer Beatrice van der Poel and pianist Mike Boddé are the hosts of The Lotusclub, inspired by the illegal nightclubs of the prohibition era. Beatrice van der Poel steps into the shoes of the lesser known singers of that time, who often fell into the hands of criminals and were destroyed by alcohol, drugs and love. She plays Miss Bee, who tries to hold her own in the raw, male-dominated world of jazz, blues, whiskey, and opium. Behind the piano is the man who could well cause her downfall…
In this music performance, the emphasis lies on jazz, improvisations, and new interpretations of unknown vocal pieces from the 1930s. Beatrice van der Poel is a singer, songwriter and voice actress of many audiobooks. As Miss Bee she recorded the album Lotus Blossom, with songs that evoke the heydays of Billie Holiday. Mike Boddé is a pianist, presenter and former cabaret performer. The duo will be accompanied by two experienced jazz musicians.
