The Houdini’s and Anton Goudsmit encounter each other in their odyssey for the true origin of the blues, with howling guitars, bleeding brass and endless grooves.
The blues is not a trick, but a feeling deeply rooted and embedded within jazz. For years the internationally renowned Houdini’s had already been looking for the origin and essence of the overworked jazz standard. Now the six musicians have matured and they’re ready to go even further back in time together with a special anchorman, ‘the most amusing guitarist in The Netherlands’ (de Volkskrant), Anton Goudsmit.
Along the mangrove through the swamp, back to the ancestors of the blues – The Houdini’s en Goudsmit will have to face the music. Woes betide the artificiality, the merely intellectual approach, the common blues scale, and vulgar self-pity: The Houdini’s dare not rest until they have scrutinized the blues in honesty, with all their hearts.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.00 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
