Under the moniker Future Sounds of Folk various musicians from different corners of the world present contemporary visions on non-Western folk music. Computer musician Marc Chia from Singapore initiated this project by performing extensively around the world with his electronic setup. He shares the stage with Indonesian musicians Jimbot, who extends the traditional gamelan, and Wukir Suryadi, who plays his self-built bamboo harp. In Amsterdam they meet with drone maverick Machinefabriek and composer Yannis Kyriakides. ‘A journey to experience and rediscover the history and tradition of folk, not as the past, but one with a future’ (The Wire).
