THE FRED HERSCH/BENOÎT DELBECQ DOUBLE TRIO, WORLDPREMIERE: FUN HOUSE

PREMIERE: FUN HOUSE

Fred Hersch, Benoît Delbecq piano, Jean-Jacques Avenel, Mark Helias bass, Steve Argüelles, Gerry Hemingway drums/electronics

In many ways this double trio is a ground-breaking encounter, between jazz piano and the sonic wealth of contemporary classical music, between American tradition and European avant-garde, but above all between two fantastic pianists. Fred Hersch, whose quest for absolute beauty inspired his famous students, such as Brad Mehldau, meets one of Europe’s most prominent pianists Benoît Delbecq, who combines bright keyboard playing with electronics and the prepared piano techniques of John Cage. ‘A voyage into a land of magic’ (Le Monde).
