The legend is that hardbop and souljazz pianist Harold Mabern knows thousands of songs by heart, from standards to Stevie Wonder. True or not, everyone will agree that Mabern has built a wonderful career as a sideman for among others Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard, with classic recordings on Blue Note. In the quintet of tenor player Eric Alexander and alto player Vincent Herring he honors John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley, who collaborated on the 1959 album The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in Chicago. In addition this concert celebrates the 50th birthday of bassist Joris Teepe, who for many years has been bringing over fantastic jazz musicians from New York to The Netherlands.
