Terence Blanchard has been composing music for Spike Lee’s films since 1990. His powerful, lyrical trumpet is always a prominent feature on the soundtracks. Lee’s documentary about the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, When the Levee Breaks, was an emotional project for Blanchard. In one of the scenes he takes his mother back to New Orleans, where they find her house completely destroyed. The trumpet player reflects his experiences on the album A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina). ‘The result is a triumph, an extended jazz suite [that] evokes a tragedy without words and inspires emotions worthy of its subject’ (Washington Post). Bimhuiscard holders are required to pay an € 6 surcharge.
