Teis Semey is going places. The guitarist/composer is a rapidly emerging name coming from the Dutch jazz scene, impressing both as a unique musician and determined band leader. After previous projects like his Teis Semey Quintet or his duo Raw Fish with Giovanni Iavovella the time has come to create a bigger band: The Teis Semey Super Extra Deluxe Orchestra.
This collective, which will debut tonight, exists of the fiercest improvisers in the country and around. Through the lens of Balkan and Scandinavian folk music, they bring the avant-garde back to the front of the stage.
Besides the debut of this orchestra, Semey will also perform Midnight Mess, originally written for North Sea Round Town 2022. This concert refers to Semey’s Danish roots, where folklore, classical music, and Lutheran church traditions merge and is performed by Semey on guitar, Kit Downes on organ and a small choir consisting of Marta Arpini, Fuensanta Mendez, Sanem Kalfa en Liva Dumpe
For this concert The Midnight Mess comes together with the Super Extra Deluxe Orchestra and form one special unity, with Semey at the helm.
