TEDDY CHARLES & WALTER WOLFF TRIO

in collaboration with Stichting Leidse Jazzgeschiedenis

Teddy Charles-vibraphone, Walter Wolff-piano, Francesco Angiuli-bass, Andreas Fryland-drums

Teddy Charles is a living legend who collaborated with Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Charles Mingus. During his education as a classical percussionist in the 1940s he regularly played in New York jazz clubs alongside legendary artists. Like his contemporary Milt Jackson he emphasized the melodic as opposed to the percussive qualities of the vibraphone. With his innovative compositions from the 1950s he influenced a new generation of vibraphonists, including Bobby Hutcherson and Cal Tjader. Teddy Charles, now 80, is accompanied by talented pianist Walter Wolff, who studied in New York with Brad Mehldau.
