Django Amsterdam

On Saturday night, Django Amsterdam presents a surprising mix of swingjazz and instrumental fireworks. Les Violons de Bruxelles is a spectacular ensemble featuring no less than three violinists, who excel in swing and jazz manouche with a classical twist. Band leader Tcha Limberger has developed into an internationally acclaimed virtuoso, despite his blindness. Alongside violin he excels at guitar and clarinet. And he regularly showcases his singing voice.

The concert will be opened by Reinier Voet and his internationally acclaimed ensemble Pigalle 44. Special guest is Gert Wantenaar, accordionist and bandoneon player known for his collaboration with singer Mathilde Santing. Jazz guitarist Reinier Voet has played with prominent colleagues such as Jimmy Rosenberg and Fapy Lafertin. Pigalle 44 recorded two albums with Wantenaar and toured together, for example in the United States.

Django Amsterdam is dedicated to the birthday of guitar legend Django Reinhardt, the originator of gypsy jazz or swing manouche. This style of acoustic swing jazz became part of the Roma and Sinti culture thanks to Django, who’s generally considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time. For four days the concerts on our stage will be complemented with sessions and performances at the café. The house band is the trio of guitarist Tessa Spaaij, known for her melodic and expressive style. Each evening she will set the tone with an introductory performance and lead the session after the concert.
