Young listeners can become acquainted with the jazz manouche of Django Reinhardt on Django Amsterdam’s special afternoon for the whole family. Tcha Limberger sings, plays violin, and tells some of the most beautiful anecdotes from his rich musical past. The repertoire of the blind multi-instrumentalist is vast: songs and instrumentals by Django and other Manouche and Sinti artists, plus everything the trio can handle, such as Hungarian, Romanian, Transylvanian, Serbian, and Greek songs.
Django Amsterdam, with four days of concerts, jam sessions and workshops, is dedicated to the birthday of guitarist Django Reinhardt, the originator of jazz manouche. This style of acoustic swing jazz became part of the Roma and Sinti culture thanks to Django, who’s generally considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
