TARBABY FEAT. OLIVER LAKE
ORRIN EVANS, ERIC REVIS, NASHEET WAITS
Oliver Lake altsax, Orrin Evans piano, Eric Revis bas, Nasheet Waits drums
Tarbaby, one of the most interesting up-and-coming bands from New York, shares the stage with Oliver Lake, co-founder of the legendary World Saxophone Quartet. Tarbaby plays contemporary swing with influences of hip-hop and other street sounds, such as the hardcore of Bad Brains. ‘By turns scattered, focused, even jarring. But never dull’, reports Downbeat. Similarly, Lake always seeks relations with contemporary genres. His saxophone playing links Eric Dolphy’s liberated jazz with funk.
