Talking Cows is a new Dutch quartet founded by saxophonist Frans Vermeerssen and pianist Robert Vermeulen. Vermeerssen is part of the improvised music scene but always had a special interest in the sparkling jazz from the 50’s and 60’s. Vermeulen has been exploring the more traditional forms of jazz but also became inspired by the music of Thelonious Monk and Misha Mengelberg. An interesting starting point for a new quartet. Vermeerssen and Vermeulen wrote new repertoire and found two young musicians to complete the quartet with: bass player Dion Nijland and drummer Yonga Sun.
