Sylvie Courvoisier Trio

Sylvie Courvoisier piano, Drew Gress bass, Tom G. Rainey drums

Sylvie Courvoisier is known for her energetic piano playing in which she bridges the gap between her classical background and free improvisation. She first tackled the piano trio when John Zorn invited her to compose for this typical jazz lineup. The trio featuring double bassist Drew Gress and drummer Kenny Wollesen has released three albums to date: Double Windsor (2014, Tzadik), D’Agala (2017, Intakt) and Free Hoops (2020, Intakt).

Swiss-born pianist Sylvie Courvoisier formed a wide variety of bands with likeminded musicians from New York, such as Mark Feldman, Ikue Mori, and Tim Berne. Drew Gress is a member of The Claudia Quintet, and has played in the bands of Dave Douglas, John Abercrombie, and many others. Kenny Wollesen operates in both avant-jazz and pop circles, and has collaborated with, among others, Tom Waits, John Scofield, and Bill Frisell.
