The world of jazz and improvised music is filled with fantastical watering holes. Places where the entire spectrum of musicians hang up their coats and settle their qualms. Misha Mengelberg is one of these watering holes. His absurdity, humor, melodic lucidity and very real connection with the world around him draws in both the likely and unlikely alike.
For this dedication, a combination of both old and new faces will greet the stage. Benjamin Herman, Ernst Glerum and Tobias Delius all worked together and were influenced by Misha. They will be joined by Korean piano player Young-Woo Lee, Scottish Trumpet player Alistair Payne and Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong. These new(er) faces stand in the wake of the Dutch Jazz and improvised music scene that was driven heavily by Misha. Not only is this audible in their individual characters, it creates a common ground with which the whole ensemble will assemble and disassemble Misha’s music. Expect swung chaos and a few jumping hares.
Benjamin Herman alto sax, Tobias Delius tenor sax, Alistair Payne trumpet, Youngwoo Lee piano, Ernst Glerum double bass, Sun-Mi Hong drums
