SUZANNE CIANI

WORLD MINIMAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

Suzanne Ciani Buchla-synth

Synthesizer pioneer Suzanne Ciani will come to Amsterdam for the World Minimal Music Festival. Ciani has earned legendary status for her Buchla synthesizer concerts, which are as experimental as they are accessible.

Even those who don’t know her name must know her work: Suzanne Ciani created the famous sound of the Coca-Cola bottle, which traveled all over the world. 40 years ago she was one of the first to explore the then futuristic buttons and plugs of the Buchla, pioneering today’s omnipresent live electronics.

The Italian Ciani was trained in classical music in the US, but dedicated herself to sound design in the 1970s. She created music and sound for games, movies and advertisements. She became world famous in the 1980s with soothing spaced music such as The Velocity of Love and Seven Waves, followed in the 1990s by romantic fireside piano music CDs. Ciani was nominated five times for a Grammy in the Best New Age Album category.
