Ruta van Hoof acting, Harald Austbø cello/beatbox, Tjalling Schrik percussion/drums, Wessel Schrik bass/guitar/electronics, Arthur Wagenaar keys/electronics
Everything grows. Everything dies. Everything has been born. Amino acids and galaxies; multinationals and tumors; human beings, bees and slime molds. GROEI is a music theatre performance and living installation. Together with actress Ruta van Hoof, four musicians demonstrate all kinds of growth. In five chapters, from evolution to economy, from Cambrian explosion to post-humanism. In a high and low tech installation that grows during the performance into an enchanting and imposing living creature.
GROEI is a co-production of Veenfabriek and music theatre collective Susies Haarlok, which consists of Harald Austbø (cello, beatbox), Tjalling Schrik (drums), Wessel Schrik (guitar/bass, banjo, electronics), Arthur Wagenaar (keys, electronics). The living installation is a creation of Ruta van Hoof en John van Oostrum. GROEI is a collaboration with Naturalis Biodiversity Center, which documents all life on earth, through its impressive collection, knowledge and data. Naturalis researches nature in order to preserve biodiversity. This is how it contributes to solutions to global issues involving climate, living environment, food supply and medicine.
