Susana Santos Silva – Life and Other Transient Storms

The music of the young Portuguese trumpeter Susana Santos Silva drifts between chaos and beauty, melody and abstraction. ‘One of the most exciting improvisers in the world’ (Downbeat).

Susana Santos Silva has undergone remarkable development in recent years, from composer and bandleader with a strong sense of melody and beauty to notable improviser with a singular language in which she explores the outer limits of trumpet playing.

Life and Other Transient Storms is the title of her latest album, for which she put together a dream band featuring renowned Scandinavian players such as the Danish saxophonist Lotte Anker and the Swedish pianist Sten Sandell.

Susana Santos was one of the participants of the October Meeting 2016 and has previously performed at the Bimhuis with, among others, Kaja Draksler and Joachim Badenhorst. She earned her master’s degree in Rotterdam, where she collaborated with Eric Vloeimans, Jarmo Hoogendijk and Wim Both.
