Transforming contemporary pop music for one’s own ends has always been an essential part of jazz. This Norwegian quartet draws from electronic experiments in contemporary genres like ambient and noise and builds up overwhelming improvisations with an atmospheric force that reminds of progressive rock bands like Godspeed You Black Emperor, Sigur Ros and their forerunners Can and King Krimson. Helge Sten is mainly known as producer, the other three band members have a solid jazz background in the EMC field (they worked with Louis Sclavis, Edward Vesala and Nils Petter Molvaer, amongst others). Arve Henriksen is one of the best European trumpet players of this moment.
