Sun-Mi Hong Quintet: ‘Third Page: Resonance’

Her passion for drums has led her alongside many steep paths and winding roads, but in the end the Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong established herself in Amsterdam, where she has been living for the past ten years. In her original compositions we hear catchy melodies and dramatic outbursts, alongside impressionistic patterns and irregular time signatures. In her quintet she collaborates with international super talents from the Dutch jazz scene.
The new album by the Sun-Mi Hong Quintet, Third Page: Resonance, will appear on the renowned British label Edition Records. The group won the Edison Jazz 2021 award in the National category, with the previous album A Self-Strewn Portrait. ‘World class,’ said the jury. ‘Her compositions build up tension well, and remain fascinating throughout. Subtle and probing rhythms alternate with driving percussion. A close-knit group sound, with a balanced role for each band member.’
