Her passion for drums led her along many steep paths and winding roads, but in the end Korean drummer Sun-Mi Hong established herself in Amsterdam. Here she developed herself as one of the most inventive drummers and composers of her generation. Now she will perform music from her new album on Edition Records, together with her quintet. Choosing her quintet for their empathetic and diverse personalities, Hong found collaborators who supported her quest to establish a new sense of home while navigating the challenges of a new cultural environment.

This album captures the quintet’s collective experiences and emotions during its creation, delving into themes of melancholy and innocence influenced by Hong’s South-Korean heritage and personal life. The compositions are crafted as a series of emotional vignettes, with tracks like ‘Meaning of a Nest’, ‘Escapism’ and ‘Heartstone’ showcasing a compelling balance of vibrant energy and contemplative stillness.
