Korean duo [su:m] plays sophisticated contemporary music on traditional instruments. ‘A classy female duo’ (Songlines).
[su:m] is a Korean female duo with an intriguing name meaning ‘breath’, and sounding like ‘soom’. They make unique contemporary music on traditional instruments. Both musicians are schooled in the Korean tradition, but they have deliberately chosen their own style. Their compositions sound bright, sophisticated and accessible, evoking the sound of minimal and electronic music. Seo Jungmin plays the gayageum, the 25-string Korean zither, and Park Ji-Ha the wind instruments piri and saenghwang, a spectacular kind of mouth organ.
‘[su:m] are more then the sum of their parts. They are a classy female duo, a talented and sophisticated pair’ (Songlines).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
