Alto clarinet player Steven Kamperman composed the suite ‘Maison Moderne’ during his artist-in-residency at Maison Van Doesburgh in Paris. This musical journey through this iconic house combines jazz improvisations with composed sounds and moves from wonderfully subdued to firmly rocking.
Theo van Doesburg designed the house in 1930, but for the previous fifteen years he had already been very influential in European modern art. With music, images and an occasional anecdote, Kamperman leads you through this unique masterpiece of architecture and art, accompanied by three excellent improvisers from The Netherlands and France.
Dutch newspaper Trouw about the album: ‘The four musicians offer a surprising palette of sound. Their joy in playing is so convincing and contagious that it spontaneously cheers up the listener.’
