STEVE COLEMAN & FIVE ELEMENTS ‘RHYTHM EDITION’

Alto saxophonist Steve Coleman played himself into the spotlights in the 80’s with a street wise view on jazz. In this period of time, influences of rap, funk and soul are standing out with Coleman who also founded a collective with kindred musical souls and rappers: M-Base. In the 90’s Coleman moved his direction into a more globally informed jazz. Typical for his artistic vision is that this is based on the ancient philosophy of the Egyptians as well as on the cosmology or the Afro-Cuban Santería belief.
